Lower Falls - Spring
This late-spring image of the lower falls was captured in morning light from the north side of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. This picture was taken using a medium format camera and Velvia 50. Image size is 10.4" x 16.3"on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Osprey_Falls_Trail_-_Swan_Lake_Flat.jpg
Osprey Falls Trail - Swan Lake Flats
This was taken on a late spring (early June) morning on the trail to Osprey Falls as it passes through Swan Lake Flats. While it's tempting to think that cloudy days make for flat lighting for landscapes, the fact is that when there are occassional shafts of sunlight the result can be a picture with vivid contrasts and colors. This picture was taken using a medium format camera and Velvia 50. Image size is 12.5" x 17.2" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Gardner_Fiver_Falls_Sheepeater_Cliffs_Trail.jpg
Gardner Fiver Falls, Sheepeater Cliffs Trail
Sheepeater Cliffs is a popular stop on the Grand Loop Road about 7 or 8 miles south of Mammoth Hot Springs. There is a little-known trail that leads east from the Sheepeater Cliffs along the Gardner River. About a half-mile down this trail is this wonderful falls. The view downstream is of a pristine wetland and meadow and about a half-mile further is another falls where the Gardner exits the meadow. This picture is of the first falls and was taken using a medium format camera and Velvia 50. Image size is 12.5" x 15.9" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
The_Hoodoos.jpg
The Hoodoos
This picture of "The Hoodoos," a marvelous area of varied rock formation, was taken on a late spring (early June) morning...a day when clouds hung heavy on the horizon. It was taken using a medium format camera and Velvia 50. Image size is 12.7" x 17" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Firehole_River_Falls.jpg
Firehole River Falls Closeup
This is a closeup of an area of the Firehole River Falls located in the Firehole River Canyon. It was taken in late spring (early June) when the rivers were full and the falls were abundant. This picture was taken using a medium format camera and Velvia 50. Image size is 12.5" x 15" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Hayden_Valley_God_Rays.jpg
Hayden Valley God Rays
Sunrise over the Hayden Valley on a beautiful Yellowstone morning. The sun had just risen over the mountains to the east and was casting "God rays" through the clouds. Image size is 9" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Tower_Falls.jpg
Tower Falls
This picture of Tower Falls was taken the day after a late spring snow storm had moved through the area. Some snow was still left clinging to the trees which gave the shot more contrasting elements to work with. It was taken using a medium format camera and Velvia 50. Image size is 12.7" x 15.6" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Bison_on_theYellowstone_River.jpg
Bison on the Yellowstone River
This is a striking image taken in Hayden Valley on a cold, sunny February day. It features part of a herd of Bison standing on the frozen Yellowstone river while the rest of the herd grazes on land. To the left in the distance is Mt. Washburn. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Chittendon_Bridge_Trees.jpg
Chittendon Bridge Winter Trees
This image was captured near the Chittendon Bridge on a cold but sunny February day. The Chittendon Bridge traverses the Yellowstone River on the road leading to Artist Point. Just behind these trees lies the Yellowstone River not far upstreem from the Upper Falls. Image size is 12" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grand_Prismatic_Trees_1006.jpg
Grand Prismatic Ice Trees
A combination of fallen snow and frozen condensation from Excelsior and Grand Prismatic springs covers trees on the bank of the Firehole River on a cold February day. Image size is 13" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Bison_in_the_Mist.jpg
Bison in the Mist
This picture was captured in the Hayden Valley on a cool morning when mist and fog had formed. What I like about this image is primal feel that it conveys...a Bison herd in the mist with steam from thermal features in the distance. Image size is 9.4" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Yellowstone_Lake_Sunrise.jpg
Yellowstone Lake Sunrise
Early morning sunrise over Yellowstone Lake taken just as the sun rose above the Absaroka Mountain Range. Image size is 11.9" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Artist_Point_Lower_Falls_Closeup.jpg
Artist Point Lower Falls Closeup
This image of the lower falls was captured in early morning light from the iconic location on the south side of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Artist Point. This closeup perspective captures the power of these falls, with the water plunging into the turbulence and mist at the bottom of the falls. Image size is 16.3" x 11" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Upper_Geyser_Basin_Winter_Bluster.jpg
Upper Geyser Basin Winter Bluster
A not too atypical winter day was captured in this image. There was fresh snow falling and the wind was also whipping and blowing snow that had already fallen. The sun was a pale glowing ball in the sky and the picture looks as cold as it felt! Image size is 16.3" x 12.4" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Indigo_Spring_Surface_Ice.jpg
Indigo Spring Surface Ice
Indigo Spring is located in the Midway Geyser Basin near Grand Prismatic spring. At the boardwalk's edge, the water has cooled to the point that it begins to freeze. This image captures an area where the water has frozen to a greater extent (the area with the ice crystals) than the area where there is only a thin semi-transparent surface ice. I love all of the textures in this image along with the muted colors of the bottom visible through the surface ice. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Observation_Point_Castle_Geyser.jpg
Observation Point Castle Geyser
This is the view from Observation Point looking down on the Upper Geyser basin toward Castle Geyser on a cold February morning just after sunrise. This is a spectacular scene in the early light with all of the steam rising from the basin. Image size is 10.3" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Upper_Basin_Ice_Trees.jpg
Upper Basin Ice Trees
I love this image! I captured it on a cold February morning at the northeastern edge of Geyser Hill. The steam from the thermals was thick and there was a light breeze that would create fleeting openings to photograph this stand of trees that were covered in ice and frost...a result of the steam from the thermals freezing on them. Image size is 10" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
