Doublet Pool Detail
Doublet Pool, located in the Upper Geyser Basin, is a favorite among photographers. Its scalloped edges and fascinating lines produce wonderful and varied images. This image was captured on a sunny summer day. Image size is 9.7" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Beehive_and_Bison.jpg
Beehive and Bison
Beehive Geyser erupts about twice a day. This image captures Beehive erupting on a winter day in February. Two bison cooperate to give the image added appeal. Image size is 10.2" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grand_Prismatic_Rainbow_Wide.jpg
Grand Prismatic Rainbow
Grand Prismatic hot spring rainbow of colors as captured on a beautiful summer day with wonderful puffy clouds as a backdrop. Grand Prismatic is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world (two in New Zealand are larger). This photo was taken from a trail on the opposite side of the spring from the boardwalks. Image size is 8.2" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.

Canary Spring Mineral & Bacterial Mat
This image was captured in winter near Canary Spring at Mammoth Hot Springs. This is a fascinating collection of colors and textures...mineral deposits, baterial and algal growth...and includes water in motion. The spectrum of colors is amazing. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Castle_Geyser_Portrait_Warm.jpg
Castle Geyser Winter Portrait
I was walking around the Upper Geyser Basin on a very cloudy February day when a rare shaft of late afternoon sunlight shone on Castle Geyser; this is one of my favorite geyser cones. Image size is 6.3" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.

Castles in the Air
Castle Geyser erupting on a glorious summer day. Image size is 16.3" x 10.9" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grand_Prismatic_Boardwalk_Shore.jpg
Grand Prismatic Boardwalk Shore
This image was shot from the boardwalk near Grand Prismatic spring using an ultra-wide angle lens held just above the water's surface. I think this perspective produces a unique image with the colors of the bacterial mats blending from orange to yellow to green and merging with the deep blue of the spring. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grand_Prismatic_West_Shore_Elevation.jpg
Grand Prismatic West Shore Elevation
There is a large hill next to the trail that runs to the south of Grand Prismatic spring (and eventually to Fairy Falls). If you scramble up this hill (not for the faint of heart!) you can get a very nice view of Grand Prismatic spring from on high void of trees due to the fires of 1988 that burned this area. This picture was taken from high on the hill using a telephoto to isolate some of the wonderful patterns and colors. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
The_Scream.jpg
The Scream
This interesting formation in the Mammoth Hot Springs area reminded me of the painting, by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, called "The Scream." As I am typing this description, I have the image and the painting by Munch on my screen...the resemblence with the face of the person in the painting is uncanny! Image size is 16.3" x 12" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grand_Prismatic_Abstract.jpg
Grand Prismatic Green Abstract Mat
A bacterial mat found near Grand Prismatic spring in winter. This time of year, the water cools a bit and allows more algal growth in place. The green of the algae contrasts nicely with the colors of the bacterial mats. I find myself taking many pictures of these amazing abstract compositions that nature builds literally at our feet! Image size is 10.8" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Old_Faithful_at_Sunset.jpg
Old Faithful at Sunset
Old Faithful captured at sunset. This shot was taken from the iconic spot on the boardwalk on the east side of the geyser. I was able to capture the sun as it both backlit the geyser plume and cast the tree in silhouette. Image size is 16.3" x 11" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grand_Prismatic_Reflections.jpg
Grand Prismatic Reflections
This image was captured from the Grand Prismatic boardwalk on a cold February day. What caught my eye was the reflections of the burned trees on the hills behind Grand Prismatic intermingled with the patterns created by the mineral and bacterial formations at the edge of the spring. Also note the blues of both the reflected sky and the spring. Image size is 8.6" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Orange_Mound.jpg
Orange Mound in Summer
This image is of Orage Mound...a prominent feature found in the Mammoth Hot Springs area. On this day, clouds were moving in and out and it took several shots to try to capture the mound in interesting and contrasting light. This was my favorite as I was able to capture the mound itself in light that was bright enough to brinng out the colors and sparkles in the mound but soft enough that harsh shadows weren't a problem...all while the background trees were in dark shadow but the sky beyond was a marvelous blue. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Main_Terrace_and_Tree_Crop.jpg
Main Terrace and Tree in Winter
This image of the Main Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs was taken on a winter morning while the scene was illuminated by warm morning light. As these ever-changing thermal features grow in size, they kill any trees that they surround, leaving skeletal remains that eventually fall. What caught my eye was the colors that the morning light brought out while the dark tree and the textures in it provided an interesting counterpoint. Image size is 9.2" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Mars_Grand_Prismatic_Abstract.jpg
Grand Prismatic Golden Abstract
I love these bacterial mats! There are so few places on earth where such things occur. Yellowstone's unique concentration of thermal features and water helps paint this remarkable canvass for our appreciation. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
Grotto_Geyser_Cone.jpg
Grotto Geyser Cone
Grotto Geyser is one of the popular geysers in the Upper Geyser Basin...it regularly splashes up to 15 feet for upwards of 15 hours at a stretch. The unique, weirdly-shaped cone may have resulted from sinter (deposits from the constant splashing of mineral-laden water from the geyser) covering trees. Image size is 10.8" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
