Eagle Sibling Rivalry
There is a Bald Eagle nest on the south side of the road not far from the east entrance to the park. There is no parking or standing allowed for about a quarter-mile near the nest in order not to disturb or threaten the birds. However, you can park to the west of the area and hike back to the edge of the exclusion zone and quietly observe the nest. When this picture was taken, there were two young Bald Eagles minding the house while mom and dad were out. One of the birds was showing off for the other...kind of "in your face" if you will...strutting his stuff by hopping from branch to branch, spreading his wings, etc. The other bird just sat and calmly watched. I couldn't help but be guilty of a little anthropomorphism and see some sibling rivalry on display. Image size is 11" x 16.3" on a 16" x 20" mat and backer.
