We observed a Red Fox making his rounds in the Hayden Valley in February. I think the meandering track trail left by the fox coupled with his finally coming to rest to take a break tell a story of survival in winter. Much of the fox's diet in winter is small mammals that live in a network of burrows at the bottom of the snow pack. Note also the area in his tracks where he made a plunge looking for a meal.
